PEACE BY PIECE
SHARING
The project
is a response to local interest in textile craft work (highlighted in the West
Bridgford Local Area Forum consultation of 2003), and offers a flexible
approach that allows groups to work together and to create a permanent piece of
commemorative artwork.
The project
will begin in the autumn, continue over a period of about ten weeks, presented
as work in progress during winter seasonal celebrations and be completed in the
spring. A textile artist, experienced in teaching and workshop activity, will
identify and engage a variety of community groups to share in the collective
design and production of a rag-rug wall hanging.
The
participants will benefit from
Working with an artist on the design and production of collective
artwork
Learning and sharing about the experience of life 60 years ago
Meeting and working with other participants engaged on the project
The introduction of traditional skills and techniques in a
contemporary use
The focus of activity will be West
Bridgford, Gamston and Edwalton. The project will draw on the resources and
expertise of others such as South Notts College (which runs a range of
specialist textile courses) and Ruddington Framework Knitters Museum.
It is
expected that the project will involve at least 100 participants and an
audience for the artwork of over 2,500 in the first year following completion.
